Happy New Year, 2024 !
In the face of current global challenges, everyone’s responsibility towards ensuring sustainability in all facets of life has never been more critical. Last year’s theme highlighted the importance of caring for both people and the planet; this commitment remains ever so urgent.
Sustainability is quite broad and frankly, we have hardly scratched the surface. We believe that as the Strathmore community, we have a unique opportunity to make a positive impact through our individual and collective actions. Maintaining the theme, “Sustainability: Caring for People and Planet”, will serve as a reminder of our shared commitment to creating a better world for current and future generations. Let us strive to integrate sustainability into the very fabric of our University community, fostering a culture of responsibility and innovation.
Throughout this year, we urge all departments to align their teaching, research, events, workshops, and new initiatives, anchored on aspects of this theme; whether it’s reducing the carbon footprint, implementing eco-friendly practices, initiatives that uplift classmates, colleagues, caring for neighbouring communities, or even sustainable financial spending habits.
By fostering a sustainable mindset within our University community, we can be catalysts for positive change and we will have a lasting impact on the world around us. Thank you for your dedication and enthusiasm. I am confident that, together, we can make 2024 a year of meaningful progress towards a more sustainable future.
