Competency Based (TPD) Teacher Professional Development

Dates: April 6-9
Time: 9.15am – 11.15am

Section 1: Introducing teachers to teaching with technology

This course is for teachers and other professional with little or no experience in teaching with technology.
Training in the use of tools and platforms include Zoom, Google Classroom Screencasting and Podcasting. In the process participants will gain skill in using technology to enhance subject related teaching strategies.

Dates: April 12-16
Time: 11.30am – 1.30pm

Section 2: Intermediate level This course is for teachers and others with a working knowledge of teaching technology.

This course goes beyond the basics of online teaching and examines the use of Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and various learner collaboration tools: Jamboard, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Slides

Dates: April 6-9
Time: 9.15am – 11.15am

Section 1: Rethinking classroom management

The soft skills relationships development, management capacities required by the thinking and philosophy of the CBC

Dates: April 12-16
Time: 11.30am – 1.30pm

Section 2: Rethinking teaching and assessment

Transiting to new teaching and learning capacities, assessment and portfolio development for competency-based teaching and learning.

Section 1: A Basic Course in Counselling

Easy -to-apply skills, to providing counselling to students in a school setting.
What counselling is and what it is not.
How to recognize that a student may need counselling.
Academic success.
Creating the right environment and maintaining confidentiality for factors causing misbehavior and how to address such factors.

Time: 11.30am – 1.30pm

Section 2: Rethinking Discipline and Relationships

-Discuss research showing that traditional approaches to discipline can have a negative impact on emotional security and academic success
-Transitioning to a personalized approach that accounts for factors causing misbehavior and how to address such factors.
-Raising student morale and academic outcomes.

Time: 11.30am – 1.30pm

For educators well versed in teaching with technology who wish to train colleagues

  • Training planning: needs assessment, goals and outcomes.
    Roles and responsibilities of trainers.
  • Theories of training: Adult learning styles and preferences, theories of adult learning. Pedagogy vs andragogy.
  • Instructional strategies 1: learning activities, the selection of tools, training logistics and resources.
    Practical facilitation and teaching techniques
  • Instructional Strategies 2: working with other trainers + invited experts, guest presenters. Hosting a webinar. Emotional intelligence and its impact in the classroom.
    Feedback and assessment.
  • Post-course activities: course evaluation, reporting, certification and follow-ups. Emerging issues in training
  • Presentations: participants present training program projects
