Introduction
The Strathmore Dispute Resolution Centre (SDRC) is a premier mediation centre at the Strathmore University Law School. SDRC is focused on facilitating and promoting mediation and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as a form of preventing and settling disputes and conflicts between individuals, within groups and organizations in Kenya and the wider East Africa. In the realization of this objective, SDRC, through its Panel of Mediators, offers mediation services for disputes in various types of matters including commercial, family, civil, labour, among others.Mediation is a consensual and confidential dispute resolution process that involves a third party neutral (the mediator) guiding the parties to arrive at a mutually agreeable decision. Mediation practice is gently gaining momentum in Kenya, particularly through the Judiciary’s court annexed mechanism. Further, mediation settlement agreements can be filed in court for purposes of enforcement.Following the Covid-19 pandemic, the provision of various dispute resolution services have been scaled down. In response to the need for efficient dispute resolution that is in line with current public health demands for social distancing, SDRC will be offering online mediation services.
