Who we are

Strathmore Academy for International Research Collaboration (SAIRC) has been established to promote excellence in research and innovation that can help address the world’s most pressing challenges concerning human development and improve quality of life for all.

SAIRC contributes to addressing challenges facing the research sector in Africa through

  • supporting the expansion of international networks,
  • strengthening and promoting the role of universities and other research institutions in society,
  • contributing to the reimagining of university education across the world under a vision of service to society, ethical leadership, and governance,
  • advancing impacts of research for the betterment of society and the expansion of research.

The Academy endeavors to empower participating institutions under its umbrella to share excellence, collaborate across borders and nurture global knowledge exchange.

SAIRC fosters and supports research that makes a positive impact to social, economic, and technological transformation of society and sustainable human development.  This is done through cross disciplinary research teams which collaborate with universities, research institutes, civil society, government, and industry to solve some of society’s most challenging concerns.

Key Objectives

Building Research Capacity

  • To build a critical mass of motivated research scientists and help create and develop communities of research excellence
  • To raise the profile of participating institutions and amplify their individual and collective successes.
  • To promote the scholarship of teaching and learning and bring research in the entire pedagogy.
  • To further international collaboration and cooperation in university research to help researchers gain world-class research experience.
  • To inspire science, mathematics, and digital technology leadership and innovation in young people.

Promoting Research for Policy

  • To cultivate partnerships between universities, non-profit organizations, the private sector, and government agencies to facilitate knowledge transfer and commercialization of new technologies.
  • Fostering the translation of fundamental research into societal applications for the purpose of informing policy and making disruptive innovation for societal impact.

Developing a Knowledge Management Centre

  • To establish a Research Knowledge Hub for repositories and sharing of research platforms.
  • To help bridge the gap between developed and developing countries in the field of university research, fostering capacity-building and knowledge sharing.
  • To disseminate information on its initiatives and activities, providing ideas on how these activities can be applied at the local level, and by providing a platform where university students, academics and researchers can connect and share ideas, research, and resources.

Conducting High Impact Research

  • To develop a new kind of metric that measures and reports the impact research has on improving the quality of life of communities
  • To foster and support co-production of knowledge on university education on emerging issues; science, mathematics, digital technology, and innovation; sustainable human development; ethical leadership and governance; and global university education in the digital and big data era.
  • To foster the translation of fundamental research into societal applications with the help of multidisciplinary student teams for the purpose of making disruptive innovation for societal impact.

Providing Research Support Services

  • To encourage and support universities and other research institutions to refocus their roles for broadening and strengthening their technological and social impact on society.
  • To promote the sharing and exchange of resources, innovative ideas, experiences, or expertise.
  • To create a vibrant and diverse network of students, academics, scientists, researchers, research and innovation hubs, institutions of higher education, and community partners, and thereby provide a thriving global community representing all areas of research impact.
  • To create an association of research partners of Strathmore University to serve as a global community service or special interest corporation
