PhD in Healthcare Management (PhD-HCM)
The Doctor of Philosophy in Healthcare Management (PhD-HCM) aims to equip healthcare management systems managers with skills for leading, managing and doing research and analyses on various facets and challenges that confront healthcare organizations.
Holders of a Masters degree in Healthcare Management, Public Health or any other health management-related discipline from a recognized university, with a minimum of three years management or research experience.
Holders of a Masters in Business Management or any other management course from a recognized university, with at least three years management or research experience in a healthcare-related field; and/or Holders of other qualifications approved to be equivalent to (i) or (ii) above by the University’s Academic Council.
Admissions
The Healthcare Management Programme adopts a pull mechanism in that candidates are predominantly admitted to the programme only after a potential supervisor indicates an interest to supervise them. The supervisor does so based on the concept note submitted during the application process. This ensures that student’s research topics are from very early on aligned to faculty research areas and to the overall mission of the programme, the school and the University.
1. Complete and submit the online application form.
2. Short Curriculum Vitae
3. Certified copies of your bachelor’s and master’s degree transcripts and certificates
4. Your master’s research dissertation/thesis
5. A concept note (Approx. 1500 words)
6. Two reference letters (Both academic, where possible by someone who taught you or who supervised you at master’s level or one academic and one professional reference letter)
7. A copy of your Identity card / Bio page of your passport
8. Passport Photo
9. Application fees (non – refundable) – Ksh. 6,000 or USD 60 payable via mobile money or bank deposit.
Once a complete application form has been received, it is reviewed by the admissions committee to check eligibility to the program and at the same time the applicant’s concept note is sent to appropriate faculty members for consideration.
You will be notified at this stage if we are unable to provide supervision for your research area or if your admission to the program is denied.
The PhD-HCM degree will be awarded subject to the fulfilment of the following conditions:
Conditions
i) Board of Examiners recommendation for the award
ii) Three articles published/accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals
iii) Compliance with all the University regulations
iv) Payment of all required fees.
The PhD in Healthcare Management degree shall not be classified.
The programme fee is KShs 2,760,500/ USD 27,605.
This covers the PhD registration, supervision and administration costs, taught modular courses, conference attendance (one conference), industry collaborative visit/placement (one visit) and the PhD examination costs.
