World Bank President Dr. Jim Yong Kim visits Strathmore University

World Bank President Dr. Jim Yong Kim enjoyed a firsthand experience on innovation ideas in Kenya during his visit to Strathmore University. Dr. Jim was accompanied by Strathmore Universitys Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Izael Da Silva, Dean of Strathmore Business School Dr. George Njenga, Dean of Students Strathmore University Mr. Paul Ochieng, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich and Equity Bank Group CEO Dr. James Mwangi.
In his visit, Dr. Jim witnessed the opening of a virtual Equity Hapo Hapo account by Ian Munyoki a student at Strathmore University. Munyoki, also managed to make a cash deposit into his account through conducting a mobile money transfer transaction on Mpesa. I have been hearing for years about the wonderful entrepreneurship that has been sprouting up in many places in Kenya. I have also heard of the fantastic payment system called Mpesa. Dr. Jim said, I came to the store of Ayrton and Diana who recently graduated from this university they want to become the next Alibaba and Amazons of Africa.
The World Bank Group is helping scale up business and climate-start innovations in Kenya by providing knowledge and financial support. Strathmore prides itself in innovation and was proud to host Dr. Jim as they showcased great innovative ideas in Kenya through an exhibition. Exhibitors on the day included; Strathmore University @ILab, Mineral and Allied, Devalatech, HNP, SunCulture, Sunny Money/Skynotch, Kenya Biologics, Aviva and Consumer Choice Limited.
