Strathmore Business School and School of Management and Commerce (SMC) partnered with Sauder School of Business, University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada) on 4th August 2015. The two institutions have been running collateral projects recording immense progress, a culmination to the Memorandum of Understanding. This partnership is aimed at strengthening the relationship between the two institutions, whilst encouraging cooperation in the areas of research and other scholarly activities.
University of British Columbia, in collaboration with SMC, has been running entrepreneurial based programs, whereby students pursing commerce have been part of the training exercise. Professor Thomas Ross- Senior Associate Dean, Special Projects from Sauder School of Business has been instrumental in facilitating students exchange. He currently runs the Competition Policy Executive Program at Strathmore Business School.
The partnership in its longevity will facilitate student exchange program, both at the undergraduate level and the doctoral level too. This will run in cohesion with the doctoral scheme project, currently being managed by Strathmore Business School.
The institutions will explore the areas of potential collaboration with respect to the following:
- The exchange of visiting students, scholars, faculty and post- doctoral fellows;
- The exchange of scholarly information including research papers
- The exchange of invitations to attend scholarly meetings, seminars and conferences;
- Joint conferences, workshops and exhibitions; and
- Review of other possible areas of cooperation in a variety of research and academic projects.
The institutions intend to explore these areas of potential collaboration during the five year period as stipulated in the statement of agreement.
Dr. Edward Mungai, Associate Dean Strathmore Business School, highlighted the progress foreseen by the partnership, bringing to mention the already kicked off faculty and student exchange program.
We are working towards executing exchange programs with MBA Students from Sauder Business School, and Strathmore Business School, and at the undergraduate level, the student exchange program has already kicked off. Our undergraduate students are expected to visit University of British Columbia soon.
The Doctoral Program scheme is also set to benefit from the partnership, with Doctorate fellows getting access to joint supervision from faculty members of the two institutions. This is set to kick off next year, once the program is launched.
We see a very promising future unfolding for Africa, in which we would like to be a part of that development. We hope that we can be able to contribute to educational development in Africa and also help to create stronger links between Canada and Kenya, said Dr. Robert Helsley, Dean Sauder School of Business, and University of British Columbia.
