Transition: Stepping into the next phase

Transition is the word that many fourth year student left with after the outstanding Last Lecture which was delivered by Dr. Freshia Mugo Waweru on 26th February, 2014. Powerful, inspiring, eye opening and enlightening are just some of the words that can be used to describe the lecture. She emerged as the favorite lecturer to have the opportunity to deliver the last lecture after two weeks of voting by fourth years.  Her presentation was focused around topics that students had suggested the lecturer to focus on. On percentage basis, the topics proposed by students were Life after school (30%), Career and work (18%), Investment and Finances (15%), Marriage and Family (10%) and sexual harassment at work (5%). With only one hour for the lecture, she did a very good job, drawing from her experience and wealth of knowledge in Asia, Africa and America where she has worked.

Dr. Waweru began her presentation by explaining the difference between change and transition. “We will experience change in our lives but what we should focus on is the transition” she started her lecture. The one hour lecture titled “ Transition” was well received with some moments having pin drop silence and others having loud cheers in appreciation of the lecturer. At the end, the final year students had had what they had asked for; a lecture befitting the occasion.

Dr .Waweru wrapped up the presentation by outlying the recipe for success: Integrity, hardwork and having fun as one works and always putting God closer.  We would like to thank the office of the Dean of Students for giving fourth year students the opportunity to be guided through the Last Lecture as they Transition to the professional life.
