The delightful and passionate Strathmore University student Stephanie Mwangi, topped her ACCA F8 (Audit and Assurance) exam, awarding her the top position nationwide and position 19 globally.

 

Stephanie is a 2^nd year student, studying a Bachelor of Commerce – Accounting (Major) at the School of Management and Commerce. She attributes her success to hard work, passion and determination.

 

Why did you choose to study ACCA?

After High School, I was undecided on which course to pursue. My family advised me to do what I love. I decided to join an ACCA class, under the School of Accounting at Strathmore because of my great love for Mathematics. Later I started my Bachelor Degree.

 

How is your experience so far with the ACCA papers?

I have completed 9 ACCA Fundamentals papers, now I am studying my Professionals.

This was not my first paper to excel in; I also topped my Tax paper in June 2016.

With this particular paper, the F8 paper, I had to study a lot of theory which was very challenging, because I love mathematics more; but it was exciting to do it. I tend to put more effort in theory because I know it is not my strongest suit.

 

How did you feel when you found out you were top?

When I found out that I was the top student I was really excited. My friend forwarded a snapshot of the results that had been posted on the Visa Oshwal board, and I was really amused. I did work hard but I did not know it was that hard. I am glad I did well.

 

How did you balance the two courses?

I balance my undergraduate course studies and my ACCA by ensuring that I enjoy studying both of them. I believe if you do not enjoy what you are doing, you will underperform. I therefore, chose to do my best because I chose to study these particular courses.

 

What are your future plans?

I hope to finish all the professional papers by next year, concurrently with my undergarduate last semester.

I enjoy Tax, Finance and Auditing; I therefore hope to merge Accounting and Finance either in my organization or at an organization that I will work in. I am currently perfecting my foundation, because both options are wide and I need to specialize in both of them if I am to work in both fields. I wish to give it my all.

 

 

What would you advice fellow students on hard work and excelling…

I encourage them to believe in themselves. The journey to where one wants to be is the worthwhile adventure, not necessarily the destination. Love what you do and you will do it well.

 

I am also grateful to Strathmore because I am now adjusted to the dress code which has prepared me for the professional world. I also appreciate the art of being whole-rounded that is instilled in students.
