The Jim McFie Education Fund Charity Golf

Many a times it has been stated, if someone has touched your life, it follows that you should touch another life. With the overarching vision of ‘transformed individuals creating wealth and changing the world,’ the Jim McFie Education Fund is a cause that was initiated in 2014 by former students and friends of Dr James Boyd McFie.

The education sector in Kenya is grappling with the issue of student placement in institutions of higher learning, especially after their completion of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE). This means that students who may have qualified to proceed to universities have limited possibilities because the number of spaces in universities cannot match up to the number of students being released from secondary schools. Such students face challenges such as: uncertainty about their future, limited possibilities to continue with studies, little exposure as a result of having been in local schools and failure to realize their potential among many others. For such an individual, a scholarship would mean quite a lot.

To this end, a golf event has been organized for 20th March, 2015 at the Muthaiga Golf Club. It will be an annual event aimed at creating a platform for sponsorship arrangements with companies and individuals as well as networking opportunities among high profile corporate executives. The golfing initiative is expected to raise Kshs 15 million to cater for scholarships in 2015.

Dr McFie is synonymous with accounting and business education in Kenya. He has been teaching Accounting and Mathematics for almost 50 years and now teaches at Strathmore University. Apart from lecturing, he has served Kenya in different capacities. In 2007 he was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) by the President of the Republic of Kenya.

The education fund, through the Jim McFie Education Fund Charity Golf Event seeks to finance the accounting and business education of deserving beneficiaries and mentor them to catalyze wealth creation and inspire social transformation. Within a span of 20 – 30 years, a beneficiary of the education fund will be successful, having a strong set of values that will transform him/her as an individual as well as cause transformation at the family level. In addition he/she will be empathetic towards others and will contribute to positive societal change.
