Student Wins 1.7M Strathmore Scholarship – Brookside Mathlete 2016 Challenge

High School student Lynn Akoth of Alliance Girls high School, won this year’s Brookside Mathlete Challenge winner, scoring 37 points out of 40. Lynn received a full Strathmore university Scholarship worth 1.7 million to study a course of her choice.

 

The national math contest attracted 149 finalist from 13 counties nationwide. The 1st runners up position went to a Mang’u High School student who scored 34 points in total. 

 

1st and 2nd Runners-up boy and girl prizes include; 1 year Strathmore University Diploma Course Scholarship in Business Management (DBM); or Diploma in Business Information Technology (DBIT); or Strathmore University Professional Course in CPA or ACCA.

 

The students battled it out at county level before coming to Strathmore for the final rounds. This year saw participation from an additional 3 new counties.

 

The initiative of both Strathmore University and Brookside Dairy is set to improve mathematics performance in the country, through offering rewarding scholarship options through challenges such as this.

 

The winners’ scholarship offer would see to it that Lynn studies her four year course of choice, which would come with packs such as a fully paid academic trip abroad and laptops for use while at school.

 

The competition seeks to increase its reach in the coming year, targeting an additional twelve counties making a total of 25 counties in the country.
