Stratizens to benefit from AIMS-EMST Industry Immersion Programme

Strathmore University students will now have a chance to immerse themselves in the AIMS-EMST Industry Immersion Programme, a joint initiative by the European School of Management and Technology (ESMT), Berlin and the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS): It receives funding support from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation (BMZ) through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

Initiated in 2017 by ESMT in partnership with AIMS, the Industry Immersion Program has been demonstrated as a feasible and effective approach to preparing STEM graduates for work in industry and business. The programme is tailored for mathematically trained African graduates and prepares students to transition from an academic environment to employment in industry.

Final year students in the School of Computing and Engineering Sciences and the Institute of Mathematical Sciences commenced the programme today, July 19, with an intensive five-week academic module designed by ESMT. It will be followed by a 12-week internship at top local firms such as MasterCard, Braun and Dalberg. During the three months, participants will experience a business environment first hand, one in which they are able to apply their academic learning.

Strathmore is the first university outside of AIMS to be included in this programme that already runs in Rwanda, Ghana and South Africa. Due to the restrictions on international travel, students will have the academic module on Strathmore grounds and proceed to their internship in local firms. Throughout the programme, transport, meals and accommodation will be catered for.
