Stratizens mark 2020 Culture Week

Every year, Stratizens gather in the Main Auditorium to celebrate the diversity of their cultures. Strathmore University is home to over 36 nationalities represented from all corners of the globe, with students from Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, China, India, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Liberia, Mozambique, Tanzania, Cameroon, France, Spain, Malawi, Nigeria, among others. We get to see Art pieces, listen to spoken words, have karaoke, support our fellow Stratizens through the flea markets, demonstrate our style and beauty on the runway and get to enjoy Strathmore finest talents during the cultural concert. It has been nothing but an amazing and fun experience so far.

This year, the 11th Student Council did not let Covid-19 and social distancing measures stop them. Thanks to our student community that is always dedicated to add more and more value to their experience in Strathmore, the council organized a fully online Cultural Week where students got to pre-record their performances and the council put it together to make three shows for the Cultural Week. The first day was all about Art, the second day was all Food and the last day was just lots of Fun. The shows were live on Zoom and YouTube. People from all around the world enjoyed this amazing event… To be precise, 885 people watched the shows live throughout the week, and YouTube views continue to increase every day. Among the judges, we had field experts from Kenya, Uganda and Malawi.

Make it Pop

The theme for this year’s cultural festival was “MAKE IT POP”. Culture was not just defined in its traditional meaning but rather it was seen as something broad; people have different ways to see, experience and express their cultures. And as always, Stratizens really made it pop. The best performers walked away with gift vouchers from Carrefour and Naivas Supermarkets.
