Stratizens Decide: Meet the 12th Student Council

The 12th Student Council was elected on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.

Stratizens went to the poll on the morning of September 30, 2020, to elect the incoming 12th Student Council. The results were announced on the same day in the afternoon by the Dean of Students, Paul Ochieng’ via zoom. This occasion stands out as the first time elections have been held and conducted through online platforms owing to the ongoing pandemic.

The election period began on August 21 with the submission of election applications by prospective candidates. The election committee then vetted the candidates while classes selected their voting delegates. The new council takes the baton from the 11th Student Council whose term demanded more resilience and leadership skills as the University operations were moved to the online space. The 12th Council will be mandated with steering the student body through the post pandemic period.
