Strathmore Women’s Hockey Team Unveil New Kits by Lornah Kiplagat

Strathmore University women’s hockey team (Scorpions) are the new Lornah Sports hockey women wear brand ambassadors, through a strong collaboration by the university and the renowned athlete Lornah Kiplagat. Deeply rooted in Africa and with a passion for excellence, Lornah and Strathmore found a common ground to work together. To this end, Scorpions team will be the brand ambassadors of the luxury sports brand in Kenya and Africa.

Lornah, whose victories were outside the African continent, is now retired and has introduced a sports brand that provides the wearers with the feel of African spirit. With this endeavour, Lornah wanted to partner with a women’s sports team that has a character like hers and Strathmore University women’s hockey team fitted the bill. The team is not only intelligent and strong but also courageous taking professional clubs, and has over the years cemented itself as one of the best teams to come together to grow and build on each other’s strengths for mutual benefit.

“I started Lornah sports because the kits I would wear from other companies were not motivating. I admire Strathmore University’s seriousness with sports, that’s why I wanted to partner with them as my brand ambassadors,” said Lornah during the new kits launch.

Against all odds, despite living in a time and a culture with very limited opportunities, Lornah managed to start a strong career in athletics, becoming one of the best runners in the world, both on track and on the road. Saving her prize money for several years, and with a desire to change the next generation of Kenyan girls, Lornah founded the Lornah Kiplagat Sports Academy to give girls from all over Kenya the opportunity for the best possible combination between sport and education.

Strathmore University Dean of students, Mr. Paul Ochieng, explained the fact that the university is keen on partnering with individuals with similar interests/characters as those of the school, stating that Lornah was an excellent fit to the hockey team’s character. “At Strathmore we pride ourselves with recognizing our very own Kenyan brands. This is the 10th year of the Strathmore women’s hockey team and that is why this launch is special,” Paul stated.

The new hockey kits will be in two colours, jungle green and orange.
