Strathmore University wins Financial Reporting Excellence award

Strathmore University participated for 3rd time in the Financial Reporting Excellence awards, (FiRe)  and emerged winners in the Not- For Profit category in which Strathmore is  the only university publishing its financials and submitting the same for scrutiny by a panel of judges. 2012 saw the University ranked  winners in the same category, as well as 2nd Runners up in the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) category, not a small achievement for all those involved in the preparation of the university’s financial reports.

FiRe awards, strongly promoted by Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK), Capital Markets Authority, (CMA) and Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE); this year celebrates 12 years since its inception, with a sole mandate to strengthen financial markets by encouraging institutions to make disclosures of their activities thus enabling a wide range of stakeholders make decisions based on this information. The awards have gained a significant following from companies in Kenya and with a sizeable  number of companies from Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania from the East African region. In this years participation, a record 153 entries in the various categories were submitted to ICPAK for the award. In 2012 and again in 2013, the promoters organised a one-day conference to discuss issues emerging in the judging criteria.
Congratulations are in order for the Strathmore University Finance department and Communication office in collaboration with the University’s auditors PwC for a job well done.

SHINING: Strathmore Team display the award.
