Strathmore University Sports Day, 2014

The School of Management and Commerce (SMC) teams scooped the winners overall faculty trophy, in the Annual Strathmore University Sports Day, last Friday August 29th. In a fun, loud, active and enthusiastic way, students packed the sports complex in readiness for action. Six faculties were represented with the team players adorned in branded T-shirts. The colours on the T-shirts represented the schools brand colours; SMC (green), FIT (blue), SOA (navy blue), SFAE (purple), SLS (red) and CTH (maroon).
Sponsors of the Sports Day were; Ultimate Sports Nutrition (USN) Kenya, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) and Coca-Cola, who were present on the day with lots of giveaways to be won. The competition began at 10:30am after an opening speech by the Dean of Students Mr. Paul Ochieng. About 1,000 students both as participants and spectators, and staff members attended the event and participated in the different games.
These games included; football, basketball, athletics, handball, volleyball, rugby, lawn tennis, table tennis, scrabble, karate, swimming (at Nyayo National Stadium), chess (at the Students center) and a new sport – archery, recently introduced by the Office of the Dean. The students participated in sack races and tug-of-war challenges to complete the days activities.
Entrepreneurial minds were not left behind either, as students took time to prepare snacks such as samosas, sandwiches, ice cream e.t.c for sale to fellow students at the pitch.
