Strathmore University plays host to ACCA President

Strathmore University first year students from the School of Management and Commerce (SMC) were privileged to be addressed by the President of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) Mr. Brian McEnery, on Friday 28th April, 2017.

Mr. McEnery, whose focus has been to inspire young people to pursue the field of accountancy, expressed confidence to the students that the accountancy field has many opportunities, and that their future was bright. “In the field of accountancy there are many opportunities which will be at your disposal, there are a wide variety of career path choices that you can follow” he said.

Mr. McEnery, was accompanied by members from the accounting body and those from Strathmore University led by Dr. Elizabeth Gachenga – Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs.

Earlier this year, ACCA in partnership with the University, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) agreement that saw the embedding of ACCA into the BCOM course offered by SMC.

The embedment of the ACCA program into BCOM is a sigh of relief to the fresh lot of first year students. The students will study ACCA from their first year, and will have full benefits key among them; access to the ACCA learning resources; earning ACCA exemptions progressively as they take their BCOM exams; and most importantly being entitled to preferential financial incentives on their ACCA fees.

Steve Obuogo, ACCA Education Development Manager, who was also present at the function, instructed the students to come out in large numbers in the week of 2nd May to discuss any inquiries they may have, with the ACCA team that would be on the ground.
