Strathmore Teams Dominate Weekend Fixtures

Strathmore teams dominated in the weekend league matches in various tournaments across the city.  In the Kenya University Sports Universities national playoffs held at Kenyatta University, Strathmore teams won gold in the ladies hockey (scorpions), the handball men and the volleyball men (jaguars), while basketball men (blades) scooped gold in the Nairobi conference KUSA basketball finals televised live on ZUKU.

 

Table tennis and basketball ladies (swords) teams, won silvers in the national playoffs and Nairobi KUSA playoffs respectively. Swords will continue in the league by representing the University in the ZUBL national playoffs from Friday at the same venue.

 

In the first round of finals, Scorpions, started the gold rush by dismissing USIU 3-1 in the flicks after tying nil-nil in the regular time. The team had earlier beaten Moi University 2-0 to sail in the finals.

Handball was the 2nd team to claim gold by whipping MUST 27-25 in a tight match. The team also beat KU 18-17 in a tightly contested semifinal match.

 

Jaguars easily spiked Kisii University 3-0 sets en-route to the finals where they beat Egerton University 3-2 in a tough tie that stretched to 5 sets.

 

In the last round of finals, Blades defeated Zetech University 64-62 in an entertaining match at Nyayo stadium.  Blades won all their matches en-route to the finals starting on Friday. The basketball games will be live on ZUKU

 

In the overall ranking of the just concluded KUSA national playoffs, Strathmore was ranked top in team’s events.

 

In the enterprise cup, Pan African Strathmore Leos rugby team beat Mean Machine of University of Nairobi 38-22 at Strathmore. The team will meet Nondies at the ASK showground over the weekend in the quarters finals.
