Strathmore Marketing Club Corporate Talk Series 2018 – Winning at Digital Marketing

According to a 2018 report published by We Are Social and Hootsuite, more than half of the world’s population is now connected to the web. Further to this, the report reveals that Africa has seen the fastest growth rates in the internet. The reason for this is that the number of internet users across the continent increased by more than 20%, in 2017 only.
It is therefore essential for businesses to go digital. It is instructive to note; however, that any business success and effective tackling of the digital world is linked with indissoluble ties, to an in-depth understanding of marketing. Precisely, such an understanding will allow businesses to spot various challenges and opportunities in the digital space, and to capitalize on opportunities that drive customer engagement and acquisition, brand building, and product awareness.
It is against this background that the Strathmore Marketing Club hosted its second Corporate Talk on 27th April 2018 at Strathmore University, with the theme, Winning at Digital Marketing.
The talk was on the increasing need for entrepreneurs and professionals to understand digital marketing, and to operate in such a way that they reach favorable business outcomes. 120 students and professionals were present.
Panelists at the event included Ms. Janet Kamau – Africa Marketing Manager at Oracle Corporation; Ms. Sarah Oyungu – Africa Digital Marketing Director at Standard Chartered Bank; Mr. Bernard King’ori – Digital Marketer and Business Intelligence Specialist at PwC Kenya; Ms. Teresa Watetu – East Africa & Ghana Marketing Coordinator at Bluekey Seidor; and Ms. Janet Machuka – Founder of the Africa Tweet Chat. Mr. Felix Mbugua – CEO at Legibra Holdings was the key guest. The panel session was moderated by Mr. James Njoroge – Head of Digital Marketing at Legibra Holdings.
The event ended with high-tea to enable students to engage the panelists and other industry professionals on a one-on-one basis.
The Club is grateful to the Dean of Students office for the support accorded while preparing for this event, and Legibra Holdings and Marketing Africa for sponsoring the event.
