Strathmore Library Week: Read more, Be more, Do more

The Strathmore University Library is at the forefront of promoting a reading culture with a reputation extending to a global context. In promoting and encouraging a reading culture among students, the University Library has organized a Library Week from 23rd -28th August, 2014 with the theme: Read more, Be more, Do more

Several competitions during the week have been organized with winners expected to walk away gifts such as Laptops, Smartphones and digital cameras among other notable awards and recognitions. Staged competitions include online competitions and photo contests among others.  Students will also enjoy other rare privileges during the library week like a waiver on overdue book fines.

“Nurturing a reading culture among students in the University has been our center of focus and I must say that we are doing very well. We envision a generation that is passionate in carrying out research and other scholarly works with a spirit of knowledge dissemination. Quality and Excellency in our service delivery is our top priority. ” said Emily-a library staff member.

The Library staff has also organized an intensive and extensive training on use of the vast collection of e-resources available in the University Library portal. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity to fine-tune their library usage skills.

A reading generation is an informed generation. An informed generation is knowledgeable. A knowledgeable generation is wise. A wise generation is responsible. Knowledge is power. Therefore a reading generation is wise, powerful and responsible. Great persons are not born-they are made. Knowledge and understanding are not inherited-they are acquired.

Be inspired to develop a reading habit so as to position yourself better in the current information-oriented world. “Knowledge is power; Information is liberating and Education is the premise of progress in every society; in every family”-Kofi Annan.
