Strathmore Alumni Awarded Tullow Group Scholarship

Former Academic Representative at the Strathmore Student Council office, John Mwangi a.k.a MJ, has been awarded the prestigious Tullow Group Scholarship. This scholarship will see him study a degree in Master of Science in Logistics and Supply Chain management at the University of Portsmouth, UK. The scholarship fully covers all expenses in; tuition fees, accommodation, travel allowance and he will also be getting a monthly stipend, all this costs amounts to an estimate of Kshs 5million per awardee.
John is among 34 Kenyans who have been awarded Scholarships to study postgraduate degrees in various universities in the UK.
John joined Strathmore University through an EABL Scholarship. He had this to say about his study life in the university, I had a lifetime opportunity to do my undergraduate in Strathmore University. The prestigious institution changed my thinking and remodeled my interests. Today, I can say it made me an outlier in a world where competition grows by milliseconds! He graduated with First class honors in BCOM Finance Major and also successfully completed a CPA (K) course.
Since graduation, John has worked in three institutions; Immediately after graduation I joined Chase Bank Limited as a reconciliation officer. I resigned after 11 months to join Higher Education Loans Board as an auditor up to March 2014. In April 2014 I joined Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited as an SME Banker.
Aside from the job opportunities, John is grateful for the mentorship program Strathmore offered him while in school, The program has been my strongest pillar. Mr Paul Ochieng-Dean of Students, Lillian Njeri Munene, Prof. Sperling, Dr. Jim McFie and SMC lecturers played a big role in modelling my today. I unreservedly thank them.
John is also thankful to God for aligning him with great people in his life that have challenged him and his way of thinking. He is indebted to his friends that stood by him, guiding him, mentoring him and showing him love. But above all I want to thank God for all these. He has lifted me from glory to glory and from strength to strength. Indeed to God be the glory, he said.
