On 22nd April 2022, the School of Tourism and Hospitality (STH) held a finalist gala dinner for the class of 2022 to celebrate the fruition of their four-year university degree. The gala provided an opportunity for the students and their lecturers to enjoy their last dinner together, reunite and reconnect.

Dr. David Chiawo, Dean STH, honoured the class of 2022 and appreciated the lessons he received from them which made him and his fellow lecturers grow and become better educators to the rest of the student body.

“I believe that we, as lecturers, learned a lot, if not more than the students while teaching,” Dr. Chiawo said.

While taking the attendees down memory lane, Dr Chiawo cracked an inside joke about a slogan he learned from the students while visiting Tanzania, the ‘Brian Effect’ – ‘Serve More Food’, which he claimed still cracks him up.

Representatives from the class of 2022 and the lecturers gave moving speeches as they recalled their experiences when they first connected as a class and how their relationships grew from strangers to best of friends. The lecturers appreciated the students for growing up to become strong, intelligent, and bold individuals.

And the award goes to…

Some of the various awards presented were: The best-dressed students, the class representatives, and the Master of Ceremony. The students were introduced to the school’s Alumni Association and were asked to become active members who will empower change in the community.

Congratulations to the STH Class of 2022 and best wishes in your next adventures!
