Spicing up motherhood
“Mh! As a professional and a mother, you might expect it to be a daunting and overwhelming task, but with the right support system, it’s surprisingly manageable. Work and family support are the secret ingredients that make it all come together flawlessly. Meet Natalia and Philip, a delightful duo who have brought immense joy into our lives. Philip, the calm and composed one, and Natalia, the fiery and vocal powerhouse. These two have their own unique ways of brightening up our home. Welcoming our children into our lives was a grace that we are very grateful for.
Becoming a mother has gifted me with heightened sensitivity and attentiveness, not only within the confines of our home but also in the vast world outside, even within the office walls. My children have given me a fresh perspective on how to navigate life’s challenges and instilled in me a renewed purpose.
As I celebrate mother’s day this year, it holds a special significance for me, as I am not only celebrating the joys of motherhood, but will also be commemorating my son Philip’s 15th birthday on May 12th – the feast of Blessed Alvaro. We would like to pass our warm birthday wishes to him. It is a double celebration of love and gratitude.
During the festive seasons like birthdays, christmas, I find myself captivated by Natalia’s decorating prowess and gift-wrapping skills, and naturally, I join her in creating a festive wonderland. Her joy in playing the piano fills her whole life with excitement. On the other hand, Philip’s talents lie in writing, soccer and swimming. We make it a point to indulge in shared activities like accompanying them to sports events and embarking on thrilling family trips. Exploring new places and creating lasting memories has become a cherished tradition for all of us.”
This is the motherhood experience of Anne Rose, a staff member at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (SHSS), who has been thriving since she joined Strathmore. It all began when she enrolled in the secretarial and managerial course in 2000, and her connection with her mentor at Strathmore still holds strong today. Their friendship extends beyond the academic realm, with her mentor even attending her ruracio ceremony upcountry. This unique bond exemplifies the emphasis Strathmore University places on fostering meaningful relationships. As a student, Anne Rose learned the invaluable lesson of building and maintaining connections with mentors, a lesson that continues to inspire her. Another influential factor in Anne Rose’s journey is the Strathmore Chaplaincy, which has been a pillar of support.
There is an African saying that says “It takes a village to raise a child”. Her parents, her parents in law, her siblings and her friends have been big supporters as well, as she expresses her gratitude for their presence and love in her life. Furthermore, she emphasizes her deep appreciation for her husband, Kenneth Ndehi, highlighting his constant support and describing him as a wonderful husband and father to their kids.
Her journey is a reminder that with the right support and a sprinkle of love, motherhood can be an enchanting and rewarding adventure.
Happy mothers’ day to every mother in the world! You are life’s real superheroes!
