SMC Dean Publishes Second Edition of Fundamentals of Accounting book

Dr. David Wangombe Dean, School of Management and Commerce has published the second edition of Fundamentals of Accounting. The book provides updates and clarifications in all chapters of the original book in line with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Conceptual Framework of Financial Reporting.

The book also adds a chapter on introduction to financial reporting in the public sector and aligns the terminology and examination questions to the current practice.  Lecturers and instructors who have taught using the first edition will find the second edition more lucid and easy to apply. It will prove to be very resourceful to everyone in the financial and accounting sector including students, lecturers and professionals.

“The book contains a thorough coverage of the syllabus topics, and a student who acquires a good understanding of the various matters covered can be confident of success in the respective examination.” says Dr. Wangombe.

Each chapter is self-contained with an introduction, learning objectives and the body. Suitable examples are provided to develop a thorough understanding of the subject. At the end of the chapter, appropriate examination questions are provided. Suggested answers for selected examinations questions are included at the end of the book.

Dr. Wangombe has lectured Accounting and Finance courses both at University and tertiary level for over 20 years.  He is a BA (Hons) and MBA graduate of the University of Nairobi, with a PhD Accounting from Strathmore University. He is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya (CPA (K) and is the current Dean, SMC. Dr. Wangombe has published several refereed articles and presented academic papers at several research conferences focusing on accounting. He is the author of the book “Advanced Accounting, Theory and Practice” used in both university and professional accounting studies.  He has also written several cases for teaching particularly business executives.
