SEDC Students Engage in Business to Business forum with Argentina Agronomists

Strathmore Enterprise Development Centre (SEDC) under the School of Management and Commerce (SMC) hosted LAC Africa Limited, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), and Kenya Agribusiness and Agroindustry  Alliance(KAAA)  for a Business to Business (B2B) forum.

The B2B event was graced by H.E. Mr. Martin Gómez Bustillo, Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to the Republic of Kenya.

The forum created an opportunity for the EDP entrepreneurs to listen to the presentations and network with the Agronomists, learn about modern technologies of farming and No-till planting for better farm yields. It created a good platform where agronomists were able to explain their area of expertise, how long they have been in the industry, the challenges they face in the industry, growing trends, and their success stories, after which a question and answer session was conducted.

Argentina is able to produce enough food to feed its large population. This has been made possible due to proper land management, soil analysis, proper application of organic and inorganic fertiliser, integrated pest management, proper choice of hybrid seeds and varieties, use of zero tillage system, crop rotation, use of inoculants and use of machinery.

No-till planting (NTP) in Argentina is regarded as an integral system of agricultural production. The system uses specific machinery that plants directly without breaking the ground or crop residue. Currently in Argentina No-till planting covers 92% of the arable land (33 million hectares).

Entrepreneurs present secured partnerships and built networks with the agronomists. Some got invitations to to attend the II LAC Africa Business Summit to be held in Argentina next year January, 2018.
