School of Management and Commerce Triumph at the Strathmore Annual Sports Day

The annual Sports Day Strathmore University event on Friday, 28th August 2015 kicked off amid enthusiasm, hope and determination to win among students representing their respective faculties. The fields colourful in different faculty colours. Despite tough competition with sweat and zeal, the School of Management and Commerce (SMC) emerged best overall with a total of 380 points, this was closely followed by Faculty of Information Technology (FIT) with 314 points while the third best faculty on the day was the School of Accountancy (SOA) with 129 points.

 

On the best faculty women category, SMC emerged best with 148 points, FIT came closely second with 116 points, while SFAE third with 56 points. The best faculty men category also showed stiff competition as SMC clinched the gold with 232 points, silver medallist was FIT with 198 points while the bronze medallists was SOA with 73 points.

 

Competition was stiff on all disciplines. Soccer men attracted many competitors from all faculties but the mighty SMC clinched the gold medal after facing a tough Strathmore Law School (SLS) in the final match.

Basketball for both men and women was also tough however the men SFAE team went unbeaten to clinch the men’s gold medal, FIT clinched the silver medal while SMC clinched the bronze medal. The women basketball category was highly contested but the FIT side emerged champions beating the second placed SMC and third placed SOA.

 

In Hockey games the FIT proved superior by clinching gold in both men’s and women’s categories while SMC were silver medallists in both categories.

 

Handball men was a tough battle and SMC took the gold home while silver was won by FIT and SFAE finished third to clinch the silver medal .The volleyball side had a high number of participants and SFAE, CTH and FIT were best in that order for the man’s category while FIT won the women category after beating a tough opponent SMC.

 

The indoor games took place on the Friday, 21st August 2015. Swimming competition was dominated by the FIT who won the gold for both men’s and women’s category while SMC was second in men’s category and SFAE came second in women’s category. Table tennis competition invited only men as SOA won the gold and the bronze medals and FIT the silver medal.

 

A new sport in the university, Archery also invited many participants where SMC clinched all medals on offer for the men’s category while SMC clinched the gold for women category and SLS took home the silver medal. SMC also showed their prowess by clinching all medals in Chess except one where FIT came second in men’s category.

Lawn tennis was a tough slot, SOA won the men’s category while SFAE won the women’s category, FIT took home the silver medal in both categories. Karate was an SMC affair as they clinched all medals on offer except in men’s category where SFAE and SOA were second and third respectively.

 

The awarding ceremony was graced by the chief guest Njeri Kabeberi, the Executive Director, CMD – Kenya and the Dean of students Strathmore University Paul Ochieng.
