SBS David Mugun wins Golf Tournament
David Mugun, SBS Director, Special Projects, announced his return to the golf course after a 6-year absence by winning the Rent-a Fine-car annual tournament at Royal Nairobi Golf Club, last weekend.
Mugun scratched two holes, one in each nine, but still posted a near record score of 48 Stableford points to win his maiden title. The golfer, who started playing 10 years ago, was overwhelmed after destroying a field of 127 competitors.
I used to play once a month when I returned but changed and consistently played once a week. This has helped me a great deal said Mugun after receiving his prize.
Mugun, who played off handicap 28, parred the first 2 holes on the front nine, scratched the par four-fifth hole and picked up a double bogey at the par five-seventh hole but closed with a par over the stroke index two-ninth for a superb 24 points.
He started the back nine with a par but ran into trouble soon after to scratch the 11th. He, however, parred four holes from where even a double bogey at the home green did not stop him from making his second 24 for an amazing 48 points to beat second placed K.K.Hong, who also started with a 24 but dropped a number of shots at the back nine for 20 points and a total of 44 points.
Bupesh Lakhani finished third on 41 points. Royals Josiah Kogo, was fourth after beating Suresh Lakhani, Paul Ichangi, Dipak Gudka, Dick Muraya and Oki Amayo on countback.
