Rugby: Leos Maintain 100% Record in Kenya Cup

Pan Africa Strathmore Leos maintained the 100% wining record start to the 2014-2015 Kenya Cup season by defeating Mwamba RFC 23-22 in a spectacular fashion coming from 3-22 down. The Kenya cup fixture was hosted at Impala grounds on Saturday 10th January.
The game proved to be a tough battle for the students as Kenny Andolas drop goal gave them a 3-0 lead which was overturned by Mwamba who went on to lead 22-3 after just 25 minutes. Brad Owako, Hyke Otieno and Dan Sikuta were all on the score sheet for Mwamba while Chris Asegos two conversions and a penalty just before the 30th minute made sure Mwamba cement their lead.
A good backline play between Tony Onyango, Samuel Motari and Michael Wanjala made sure Leos pull one try back just before the break with the veteran Wanjala ensuring that he is on the score board. The half time score was 22-8 to Mwamba.
The Leos halftime talk proved worthy as they dominated the second half well and their efforts proved fruitful as Antony Orege scored a heavy duty try, his first of the season which was well converted by the captain of the day Ken Andola with the absence of team Captain Brian Nyikuli, making the scores 22-15. The game was a battlefield as Mwamba tried to bring in their physicality but the Leos who are fit and full of intensity rose in the second half making sure the opponents do not put any points on the board.
The introduction of front rows John Okwara, Mugambi Githamba and Patrick Ouko in the forwards proved to be worthy as their dominated the scrums make sure Charles Omondi gets the ball and be a nuisance to Mwambas defence. A good run from the flanker made sure Billy Odhiambo scored a try to give the Leos a comeback though Andola missed the conversion.
The next team to score would definitely carry the day. Strathmore proved once again why they are the team to beat this season after an infringement by Mwambas defence gave the Leos a penalty with 5 minutes to go which was well converted by the captain, who made sure they garnered 3 points and take the lead to 23-22. Charles Omondi and Tonny Owuor continued to crack the opponents defence until the final whistle.
Pan Africa Strathmore Leos maintain their unbeaten record after week 7 showing great character witnessed on the day.
