The Strathmore University Council had a meeting today 3^rd December to discuss the tragic and traumatic consequences of the drill carried out at the University on Monday 30th November 2015.

 

As a result of the meeting, the Council has made a decision to appoint an independent committee of respected professionals to investigate the circumstances leading to the decision to execute the drill and make recommendations within 10 days thereof, actions that the University should take so that lessons learnt can be shared so that a similar situation can never happen again at Strathmore or any other institution.

 

Recommendations from this report will form the basis for an action plan going forward, and the Council will take action on any persons found culpable. The Council acknowledges that there is an on-going investigation by the government and the university is giving its full cooperation.

 

As a Council, we send our sincere condolences to the family of Esther, our member of staff who lost her life during the drill.  May she rest in eternal peace.

 

We also pray for the swift recovery of all students, members of staff and public currently recuperating in hospitals and at home.  

 

The university will over the course of the next few weeks, continue to offer counseling support to all students and members of staff.  Staff members requiring recuperation have been offered time off work in addition to counseling.

 

As a Council, we would like to sincerely apologise to our community for the immense sorrow this incident has caused.
