Jane Mugo to sit in African Quality Assurance and Accreditation Committee

 

Jane Mugo, Quality Assurance Manager in the Strategy & Quality Assurance Department, has in the last six months, made strides in her career that have built her professionally and elevated the University in the country and regionally. She has been elected to positions in Quality Assurance (QA) bodies where she will be involved in improving quality standards of education in Higher Education Institutions.

Firstly, she was nominated as one of the QA experts in the second phase of the Harmonization of African Higher Education Quality Assurance and Accreditation (HAQAA2) initiative. The HAQAA initiative is funded by the European Union and implemented on behalf of the European and African Union Commissions by OBREAL Global, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Association of African Universities and the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education.

The initiative has embarked on, amongst other actions, the dissemination of the African Standards and Guidelines for quality assurance, developed under phase one of the HAQAA Initiative (2015- 2018) and recognized by the African Union Commission as a component of the Pan-African Quality Assurance and Accreditation Framework. The ASG-QA are premised on existing standards and guidelines in different African countries and regions and also benchmarked globally.

In September 2021, she was elected to serve as Treasurer in the Kenya Universities Quality Assurance Network (KuQAN) Executive Committee.  KuQAN is a professional body that networks all QA practitioners and enthusiasts in the country. She was also elected as the KuQAN representative in the East African Higher Education Quality Assurance Network (EAQAN) Executive Committee, for a period of 2 years.  EAQAN is a network of QA practitioners in the East African Community Partner States.

Jane has worked in various positions at Strathmore for the last 27 years. Before joining her current role, she served as the Examinations Manager.
