Strathmore University Consortium has been at the forefront in the installation of this Online Revenue Collection System dubbed County Pro. Strathmore University @iLabAfrica Research Centre, through its consulting unit Strathmore Research and Consultancy Centre (SRCC), formed a consortium of top technology companies (Namu and iPay Limited) in the implementation of a consolidated end-to-end County operations management and revenue collections solution.
The ICT innovation award validates Strathmore University through @iLabAfrica as a credible provider for the Revenue automation and collection system. Through the Connected Summit, first held in 2009, ICT Innovation aims at establishing a platform for collaboration, capacity building and knowledge sharing between government and the ICT sector with a view of linking and hastening implementation of government IT projects to world-class standards.
CountyPro enables county governments to automate their revenue collection from the manual and semi-manual systems in use. This enables them to track the revenue collected, facilitating accountability; the previous systems had loopholes with no one to be held responsible. CountyPro also facilitates transparency due to the fact that everything is online and can be accessed by officials. The system is a real time solution for decision making.
County governments have targeted to reach a total of Ksh.56, 607, 648, 333 mark, based on the County Governments Budget Implementation Review Report, First Quarter FY 2015/16. With automation of revenue collection system, there will be better financial management, transparency and accountability.
CountyPro currently operates in three counties, County Government of Kiambu, County Government of Taita Taveta, and County Government of Busia.
Hopefully, in the next 5 years, County governments will become self-reliable and sustainable, enabling them to provide facilities crucial to the county members. County officials will also be able to operate optimally and efficiently.
CountyPro was also recognized by the 5th CIO100 Annual Symposium and Awards, for ranking among the top 100 organizations in the 2015 CIO100 Annual Awards Competition.
