IFS Easter Charity Donation Drive

In the spirit of giving back, the Strathmore Institute for Family Studies and Ethics (IFS) facilitated an Easter Charity Donation Drive that supported the community of Napetet village in Lodwar, Turkana County. Among the donated items were; stationery items, foodstuffs, clothing, and toiletries. Financial support was also offered.

The beneficiaries of the drive include; Nadirkonyen Children’s Home, Vulnerable families, Anna Nanjala Community Library, and Peer-Youth Mentors.

The decision to go back to Napetet was spurred by the initial success they had during the 2021 Christmas Donations Drive.

“Friends and partners of IFS wanted to come together and contribute to supporting the community, after seeing how well the Christmas Donations drive turned out. And so, we decided to plan for another,” Dr. Jane Wathuta, Director of the IFS explained.

The support from IFS’ friends and partners has been a great motivator to their core team in planning and executing the drives. They not only donate and volunteer their time but also help market the donation drives to their networks.

Welcome Home

The excitement of the Easter charity drive was evident on both sides as the people of Napetet were eagerly awaiting the IFS team’s arrival. The reception at Lodwar was overwhelming.

“Fr. Donald Imo Bassols, the parish priest at St. Michael Parish, and the community of Napetet received us with open arms and we immediately felt at home. We felt like a part of the community,” Mary Joy Karanja, an intern at IFS, said.

The IFS team got the opportunity to distribute the donations, interact with the locals, and mentor the children in the village. The engagement was productive and encouraging to the community too.

Stanley Owade, another intern at IFS, said: “We were fortunate to have had a receptive and grateful group of people at Napetet. Our aim is to help them achieve remarkable things and to develop their community.”

All Glory to God

It goes without saying that credit for the success of the donation drives goes to God. The hassle-free trips, great drivers, excellent hosts, and surplus donations could only be made possible by Him and His blessings towards the acts of charity.

This donation drive marks only the beginning of the many programs that the social outreach department is working on this year. The surplus donations they received during this cycle will be a launchpad for the upcoming drive, so be on the lookout for a call for donations and volunteers.
