Great Rift Rugby 10-aside tournament: Strathmore Leos emerge runners-up

The Strathmore Rugby team – Leos, registered mixed results in the 28th edition of the Great Rift 10-aside tournament. The tournament, which was held at the Nakuru Athletic Club, was a battle ground for the former champions.
In the opening stages of the tournament, Leos made their intentions of recapturing the title known, after registering two straight convincing wins in a row. In their opening match of the annual rugby extravaganza, the swift team thrashed their colleagues, United States International University (USIU) 24 – 0. In their second fixture, Leos continued to front their campaign on a sound note when they lashed Mount Kenya University, 31 – 0. However, the last contest of the day saw the squad humbled by the University of Nairobi team-Mean Machine, 5 – 14.
On the second day of the tournament, the Leos kicked off on a higher note after whopping Impala RFC 14 – 7, hence proceeding to the Semis. Mwamba RFC met the wrath of the Leos in the Semis, losing with a margin of 15 straight points.
The unbowed Leos went into the final with their heads held high but it was not all glitter. The high-riding Leos met their match Homeboyz RFC who beat them 22 – 0, consequently becoming the new title holders.
Mitch Ocholla, the Leos head Coach, attributed the lads performance to the squad being comprised of young fresh talent. Even so, Ocholla, applauded the boys for their relentless effort for managing to clinch the runners-up spot in the tournament.
