Football Friday – Football, Fun, and Mt. Longonot

On Friday, November 19, the Bachelor of Commerce (BCOM) students started off Football Friday organized by the Student Council Sports department and the marketing team. This is the first of many that will involve every school.
How does this interesting event work? I’m assuming you are curious! Each class and in this case the BCOM, each group from first year to fourth year will create a team for a seven a side tournament. It’s a requirement that ladies participate too. Teams pay a fee of Kshs. 300 with all funds going towards the Elimisha Stratizen fund. If you’ve not yet heard of it or made a mark in a Stratizen’s life, you should check out this fund.
The games started at promptly two in the afternoon thus kicking African timers out. The turn up was fantastic – there were around 800 people in the sports complex ready to either play or cheer their mates as they try securing their class a getaway. Others, like me, who have little to no knowledge in sports also made way there (I needed to scream without judgement).
The BCOM second year group D trounced all other teams. It was aptly represented by Francis Mukiri, Benard Kioko Kipruto, Adam Rusa, Gorge Nyombi, Chea Timothy, Ivy Nguyo, Emmanuel Blyton, Owen Kimondo, Felister Ngure, Hamza Muhaise, Atishay Wason and William Itotia. I am sure they made their class proud as they are secured the chance to visit Mt. Longonot on December 4. The game ended at around a half past six in the evening and the celebration went on till 7 pm. It was a fantastic day and the marketing team’s objective of bringing the school together was achieved and I look forward to the next school’s tournament so that I can scream, network, and make new friends.
