FIT Dean, participates in DAAD Science Tour on Artificial Intelligence

Dr. Joseph Orero, who is currently the Dean, Faculty of Information Technology, participated in the contest for DAAD Science Tour and won the award to participate in this year’s DAAD Science Tour entitled ‘Artificial Intelligence and Visual/Multimodal Computing’ held on 19th to 25th of January 2014 in Germany.   

 

The tour entailed a series of congresses with the leading Professors in Artificial Intelligence from all over the world.  A total of 16 Researchers from six continents were selected to participate in the TOUR.  Dr. Joseph Orero was the only researcher from Africa who won the award to participate in the Tour.  This was a great opportunity to form collaborations with other leading researchers to advance the university objective. 

The Tour involved visiting the leading Germany Centres of Excellency. The climax of the tour was a visit to the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). The discussions with the founders of the centre were of particular interest to Dr. Orero who intends to follow a similar model to establish such a centre dedicated to research in artificial intelligence applications in Kenya.

 

Dr. Joseph Orero received his PhD in Computer Science (Artificial Intelligence) from the University of Pierre & Marie Curie, France under the French Government Scholarship Award.  His current research interests revolve around intelligent systems and Machine Learning, in particular Fuzzy Logic and their application in AFFECTIVE COMPUTING.

 

Dr. Joseph Onderi Orero is a Lecturer, Faculty of Information Technology, Strathmore University.  He has also been appointed to the position of Dean, Faculty of Information Technology, Strathmore University.
