Financial Management for School Principals’ Kilifi County

School of Management and Commerce successfully took school principals through a four day financial management training, Finance for Non-Finance Managers, hosted through the office of the Director of Education Kilifi County.

 

The main objective of the training was to teach highschool principals on the importance of; tackling finance jargons and concepts and accounting information; preparing and interpreting key financial statements such as profit and loss account, balance sheet and cash flows statements; measuring business performance  that include, profitability, liquidity and gearing; making financial decisions; identifying different sources of funds for schools; and undertaking financial planning and reporting that include budgets and forecasts.

 

Mr.Munga Shumma principal of Sokoke Boys High School stated that ‘the course is an eye opener on the pragmatic approach to manage school finances and resources for provisions of quality education” while principal Winrose Mwaniki, appreciated the lessons on managing and generating projects which lead to accumulated funds used to give needy students bursary.

 

Eunice Mwaiseghe principal of ST. Thomas Girls secondary school stated that the training taught her to be an excellent financial manager through being able to exercise internal control, understanding the financial management process through planning, organizing, controlling and monitoring finances.
