Dramsoc and Scorpions Victorious in the Sports and Clubs Gala Awards

The 10th annual Sports and Clubs Gala Awards took place on January 30th 2015, with Club awards going to; SU media Group for Best Clubs Annual Report; SU chorale who scooped the Best Organized event award; Dramsoc who won the best CSR award; AIESEC who won the best ambassadors of the university award; and HATTS club who won the most Enterprising club award. The most promising club award went to Strathmore Accounting Association. Some of the winners for the sports Rookie of the year category included; Alex Olaba who scooped the rugby men award; Jane Njeri who scooped the Karate women award; Frank Raudo who won the athletics award; Elizabeth Ngombo who won the hockey women award, among other winners.   The auspicious occasion sought to honor the best in sports and clubs at the university in the previous year.

 

Awarding the top three major categories was this year’s chief guest Mr. Kennedy Muriithi – CEO Pan African Asset Management. He awarded Mitch Ochola, coach-Pan African Strathmore Leos, with the coach of the year 2014 award. Awarded with club of the year was the Strathmore Drama Society -Dramsoc, while the team of the year award went to Strathmore Scorpion Hockey team. Speaking at the event Mr. Kennedy lauded the efforts by the sports men and women and the clubs, who have taken time to secure a brighter future in their careers.  Pan African Asset Management are also the proud sponsors of the Pan African Strathmore Leos rugby team.

 

In the Captain’s Award category; Geoffrey Githaiga scooped the rugby men award; Isaaya Oloo won the soccer men award; George Okoth scooped the Blades award; Rachel Opinya won the basketball women award; Constant Wakhura and Carol Njoki won the hockey men and women award respectively; Martin Karungi and Grace Kathure scooped the Karate men and women awards respectively; Elias Karigi and Mauline Odero scooped the volleyball men and women awards respectively; while Everlyne Noah won the table tennis award; Isaac Okelo won the athletics award; Ken Ndungu won the Handball men award; Brian Tonui won the tennis award; Gichuru Wachira won the swimming award; and finally Allan Kipkoech scooping the Chess award.

 

Speaking in his introductory remarks, the Dean of Students Mr. Paul Ochieng, appreciated the good work support departments like mentoring and teaching & learning had done to ensure that the top performing sports students were also top in their classes. He also commended the sports teams and clubs for putting in commendable effort in all they do to ensure their teams remain at the top in the tournaments.
