Dr. Monica Kerretts – Senior faculty, Strathmore Business School has been selected among the 100 most influential Africans of 2016 by the New African Magazine, one of Africa’s longstanding and respected magazines.

 

The annual edition of the 100 Most Influential Africans, now in its fifth year, aims to celebrate the 100 personalities who have shaped the year and have made an impact. Guest-edited by seven leading Africans including Carlos Lopes, Winnie Byanyima, Ory Okolloh and Fred Swaniker, the 2016 list celebrates high achievers across a variety of fields: politics, civil society, education, business, sports and techpreneurs.

 

The magazine cited Dr. Kerretts as a vocal advocate of policy reform in education, with a passion for: institutional management and governance, critical thinking in education, and ICT and policy. Dr. Kerretts has devoted much attention to the issues of critical thinking and innovation essential to education that is to produce entrepreneurs.

 

Dr. Kerretts earned her PhD in Australia (UNSW) with a focus on Institutional Governance Management.  She earned her MSC in the UK (Salford University, Manchester) and her undergraduate studies in Communications (Major and Business Minor) with Cum Laude Honors from Daystar University – Athi-River Campus.

 

Dr. Kerretts-Makau has facilitated several training programs at executive level at SBS and trained several boards on the same. Her most recent project includes Change Advisor to the Judiciary Transformation Secretariat (2012/2013) in the office of the Chief Justice Office. She continues to support the work of transformation through the Judiciary Training Institute. She is also currently involved in the Kenya Police Reform Program where she was previously technical change advisor under the UNODC Police Reform Program.  Dr. Kerretts-Makau served as Board Director Bank of Africa where she chaired the Credit Committee and the Human Resources and Compensation Committee (2013 to 2015).  She has previous worked with KPMG (2001 to 2005) serving in the capacity of Regional Knoweldge Manager EA, and as well in Australia as Business Analyst and with Standard Chartered Bank (1999-2001) where she was Institutional Banking Manager. She trained as a management trainee under the KCB training program.
