Dr. Ateya co-publishes in a Research Journal

E-learning particularly in collaborative problem solving and the use of social media, assessments and its evolutionary application and implementation, has been the focus of research for Mr. Melvin Ballera, a PhD Computer Science candidate in the Faculty of Information Technology. His work has been published in International Journal of E-Learning and Educational Technologies in the Digital Media (IJEETDM), Vol. 1 Issue 1, pp. 32-49, entitled Improving Learning Throughput in E-Learning using Interactive-Cognitive Based Assessment with Faculty of Information Technology Senior Lecturer, Dr. Ismail Ateya Lukandu and Abdalla Radwan. This paper focuses on the design of assessment questions, which is created and guided by the hierarchical Bloom cognitive taxonomy and by utilizing rich media formats. Results conducted for eighteen weeks show a dramatic increase in the academic performance of the students by 28%. Likewise, document analysis using special software Semantria, the digital transcripts of the students reveal a positive sentiments of +.512 towards the study as directly correlated with the increase learning throughput.
Mr. Ballera has been very active in e-learning research and development focusing on evolutionary e-learning implementation and instructional design; collaborative problem and learning process; and e-assessment design as evident in his numerous papers both in international conference proceedings and journal publications. His papers entitled The Design of Interactive Assessment-Cognitive Schema: An Exploratory Study in E-Learning Implementation and Applying Reinforcement and Mastery Learning: How it Works on Personalized E-Learning Curriculum? have been published in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Thessaloniki, Greece respectively. He also served as a reviewer and critic of e-learning paper in International Conference in Computer Science and Social Media (CCCESM2014) and International Conference on Computer Science and Educational Technologies (CSCEET2014). He is an active member SDIWC, WASET and contributor of AACE. Currently, Mr. Ballera is in the final stage of his PhD paper entitled Roulette Wheel Selection Algorithm (RWSA) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) for Personalizing and Improving E-learning System with the supervision of Dr. Ismail Ateya Lukandu, Academic and Research Director Faculty of Information Technology Strathmore University and Dr. Abdalla Radwan, Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, Sirte University, Libya.
