CTH Students to Benefit from Training Partnership Deal with InterContinental Nairobi
Strathmore Universitys Centre for Tourism and Hospitality (CTH) signed an agreement with InterContinental Nairobi to enhance the university students and the intercontinental staff to benefit through technical support. The agreement will see Intercontinental Nairobi staff pursue degree courses in either Bachelor of Tourism Management or Bachelor of Hospitality, and in return Strathmores CTH students receive internships and management training opportunities from the hotel.
While giving the welcoming address at the MoA signing, Dean Strathmores School of Management and Commerce Dr. David Wangombe expressed gratitude to Intercontinental for allowing this historic partnership to take place. Dr. Wangombe emphasized that this initiative is in line with the universitys mission of providing holistic teaching to its students, an aspect that contributes to the university excellence. The agreement will position Strathmore University as a leader in holistic training in Kenya. It is important to prepare students not only for academic excellence but also help nurture innovation, critical thinking, creativity and problem solving, putting the students at an edge amongst their peers, Dr. Wangombe said.
CTH students will now be able to apply for internship and Management trainee positions at the hotel, through a tailor-made program that will fit the available opportunities with the centres curriculum calendar.
Mr. Dieter O. Franke, InterContinental Nairobi General Manager expressed gratitude to Strathmore for the great partnership deal at hand. Strathmore University has consistently provided its students with all round high quality education learning and we would like to see our employees benefit from the same. It is important for us as a hotel to be keen and put emphasis on superb training especially as this sector is highly sensitive on quality and excellence, he said.
Both Strathmore University students and InterContinental Nairobi staff will go through internal interview processes that will determine their eligibility to join the university or the hotel.
The partnership agreement will last for five years with a possibility of an extension for another five years after a substantive review.
