CFA Institute visit to Strathmore

Peter Watkins, Director, Examinations Development, Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute and a team from the CFA Society East Africa, Francis Mwangi, Director, CFA Society East Africa & Chair, Candidate Services Committee, Joyce Ndirangu, Society Manager, CFA Society East Africa and Bernard Kiarie, Board Member, CFA Society East Africa, paid a courtesy visit to Strathmore University.
The purpose of the visit was to discuss Strathmore’s collaboration with the CFA Institute. The visit was also an opportunity for the CFA Institute to meet with Strathmore students who are part of the CFA national challenge. Strathmore has for the past five years participated in the CFA challenge which begins from national and ends at the global level. Strathmore students won the CFA research challenge East Africa edition for three years consecutively.
In 2018, five students competed in the 2018 CFA Research Challenge that took place on 4th and 5th April in Dublin, Ireland. The team of five comprising Rodrigues Wambua, Jacqueline Gathoni, Luqman Hussein, Cynthia Wambui and Jeffery Murerwa reached the semi-finals in the regional competitions. In 2017, four Strathmore students represented East Africa in the regional competition held in Chicago.
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis and professional ethics. Each student is tested on their analytical, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills. They gain real-world experience as they assume the role of a research analyst.
