Ahead of the Pope’s Visit – Strathmore Community Analyze the Laudato Si Document

In readiness for Pope Francis’ visit in November this year, Strathmore University will hold a symposium on Friday 13th November 2015 to discuss and analyze the Laudato Si document. The Symposium plans to tackle four aspects:

Theological – what is God’s idea for humanity?
Philosophical – where has man gone wrong?
Cultural – how do we handle this matter in the social and legal aspects?
And Technological – how can we apply smart ways using technology to improve humanity?

Pope Francis’ Encyclical Letter Laudato Si is a document that addresses humanity on earth. The document is a worldwide wake-up call to help humanity understand the destruction that man is rendering to the environment and to his fellow man. While addressing the environment directly, the document’s scope is broader in many ways as it looks at not only man’s effect on the environment, but also the many philosophical, theological, and cultural causes that threaten the relationship of man with nature and man with other men in various circumstances.

There will be breakout sessions that will tackle what the University Staff, Students and society at large can do to improve humanity. His Excellency the Papal Envoy to Kenya, Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo is expected to attend the event and officially open the symposium.

Staff and students are invited to attend the event at the SBS auditorium. Entry is free.
