A Passion for Academic Writing and Communication

4th Year students need to write a research project as their final form of assessment and most of them usually require help to complement supervision. For some, choosing the research topics proves to be hard. It is with this knowledge that the Strathmore Writing Centre has taken time to engage with students during this process.
A group of 17 fourth year students were on Friday 1st, August 2014 involved in such discussions. The students reported that the session brought to light so many questions they had on their choice of topic as well as on how to start engaging in their choice of research area. They discussed how to choose a topic, clarifying the objectives of their study, reading around their topic, coming up with an annotated bibliography as well as working on a time plan.
The group was also encouraged to come up with a time plan working backwards from their expected month of graduation. Many of them had not factored in time, and actually realized that they could not afford to procrastinate.
The Centre offers this complementary help and is organizing thematic sessions for 4th years to help them not just with their writing, but also with other professional communication areas.
The next session will be on Literature Review. This will take place on Friday 15th August, 2014, from 2:00-4:00pm. As the room can accommodate a maximum of 25 participants, reservations need to be made with Harry on writingcentre@strathmore.edu
The Writing Centre has, experienced and concerned members of staff who provide insightful sessions in all areas of communication in an open and informal context. Anyone who needs help on this can write to us using the given email address.
