10th Annual Career Fair at Strathmore University

The 10th Annual Career Fair took place on Friday 07th of February 2014 and was a beehive of activities from 8.00 a.m – 5.00 p.m. as the companies made their entrance to the Strathmore Graduation Square, the venue of the event. It was a great ocassion for interactions between Strathmore students and HR Directors and HR personnel from the various organisations in attendance.
Strathmore University had the privilege of hosting 34 companies and over 350 Strathmore students were in attendance. The students benefitted greatly from the interactions. They learned a lot of essential and vital information from the companies such as what career opportunities are available in the companies, knowledge of the companies activities and graduate recruitment opportunities therein.
The companies themselves left no stone unturned as they sought to represent their brands to the students and as such, institutions such as I&M Bank came with its own branded tent and Intercontinental Hotel brought their finest selection of linen to transform their tent into a mini hotel room.
This year the career fair was graced by the presence of Mr. Phillipe Labonne, CEO of Bollore Logistics Africa, who was up and about giving students insights on the company as well as information on the firms activities in the region. Mr. Sayed Haggag of Marriott international who had visited the University to recruit for their Voyage Global Leadership Program earlier in the week also joined the other companies to sensitize students on the career opportunities in Marriott chain of hotels.
Most companies in attendance got quite a reception such that the inevitable advent of rain would not deter the curious students from finding out all they could especially since some of the companies such as Fairmont Hotels and Open Capital were bringing Strathmore Alumni who work for them along as such the students found it easy to approach of the company in question.
All in all it was an exciting and educational day and some of the students stated that they were eager for the next career fair event to be held with suggestions that more companies be invited.
