Women In Tech: Who is still left out?

    Share

Technology is racing ahead, reshaping industries, disrupting the status quo, and creating new opportunities at a pace never seen before. It is the backbone of modern economies, the engine of growth, and the spark for innovation. In this digital revolution, women are leading the charge as pioneers, visionaries, and leaders.

iBizAfrica, in partnership with Standard Chartered, has embraced this momentum through the #SCWomenInTech program. This initiative is designed to empower women, foster innovation, and promote inclusivity. By providing seed funding, expert mentorship, and a network of like-minded women, the program aims to accelerate the growth of women-led startups.

Now in its 8th cohort, the program has expanded its reach, supporting a fresh wave of fearless innovators ready to push boundaries and redefine industries.

At the launch event for this cohort, the energy in the room was electric. The air was thick with possibility as alumni shared their inspiring journeys. They spoke not just of financial growth, but of transformative leadership: how the program gave them the courage to challenge norms, build resilient companies, and become voices for change in their communities. It was a powerful reminder that when women lead, entire industries transform.

Dr. Beverley Obatoyinbo, a board member at Standard Chartered Bank Kenya, captured this spirit perfectly: “Together, we are redefining the future of innovation in Kenya, powered by women. It is time to confront the deep inequalities in the digital space. Who is still left out?” Her words resonated deeply, reinforcing the core mission of the program to bridge the digital divide and place women at the center of Kenya’s innovation story. “Innovation must not widen the divide; it should be the bridge that drives inclusive transformation.”

Chming in was Dr. Joseph Sevilla, Director of @iLabAfrica and @iBizAfrica Incubation Center, who also reflected on the journey so far, celebrating the tangible impact of the #WomenInTech network. “Together, we have built a strong, supportive community that continues to break barriers in fintech, health tech, edtech, and beyond,” he said. “We are not just nurturing startups – we are cultivating a generation of women who will shape the future of technology.”
