As we commemorate International Women’s Day and celebrate the achievements of women throughout this month, we are proud to spotlight three remarkable alumni of Strathmore University. Through their recent career advancements and leadership milestones, they exemplify the growing influence and impact of Strathmore graduates within Africa’s dynamic corporate and professional landscape.

Risper Genga Ohanga

She is a Strathmore University alumnus, Class of 1995, where she undertook her Certified Public Accountant Course. She has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at APA Apollo Group. This is after she served as the Group Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at East African Breweries Limited, one of East Africa’s leading multinational companies. This impressive growth in her professional life can be attributed to her strategic approach in financial leadership and corporate governance.

Catherine Cheburet Chepkong’a

She has been appointed as the financial Director at British American Tobacco. She is now leading their financial operations and strategic planning across multiple markets in the region. This role stems from her recognition in the world of finance where she portrays her leadership expertise in the field of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) across East and Southern Africa. She was also recognised among Kenya’s Top 40 Under 40 Women in 2021.Catherine is an alumna of Strathmore University, where she studied from 2008 to 2012 earning her a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree.

Magdalene Muthee

Magdalene Muthee is a BCom Class of 2016 alumna of Strathmore University and the Founder and CEO of Mosoro Afya Flours, a food processing company producing nutrient-dense foods using locally sourced ingredients to support healthier families. Rooted in a deep conviction that good nutrition should be accessible to all, Magdalene champions healthier food alternatives while promoting the sustainable use of local agricultural produce quietly transforming what ends up on the tables of communities across the region. Congratulations to Magdalene on her recent appointment as the East Africa Bureau Representative for the Afrikan Youth Business Council (AfYBC). In this role, she will help strengthen the networks that connect young African entrepreneurs to markets, partnerships, and cross-border opportunities amplifying voices, opening doors, and building bridges for businesses across the region.
