On 24th October 2025, Strathmore University reached a defining moment in its history as the Strathmore Institute (SI) held its grand Graduation Ceremony, the largest yet. A record-breaking 742 graduates crossed the stage, their triumphs echoing years of discipline, sacrifice, and resolve.

The event commenced with the arrival of guests, who were warmly received and seated by 10:00 a.m., setting the stage for a morning of celebration and reflection. Among the highlights was an inspiring address by Daudi Mawejje, the valedictorian, whose words resonated deeply with the audience. He began with a heartfelt reflection. “Today we gather not only to celebrate a finish line but to honour a journey, one paved with late-night deadlines, fuelled pursuit, chaotic group chats, and the occasional existential crisis before a CAT.”

Daudi spoke with conviction about how Strathmore University had transformed their lives, offering something far greater than books, tests, or grades. A renewed belief that the impossible could become their story. He celebrated the enduring Strathmore spirit that pushes students to embrace challenges, persevere through pressure, and emerge stronger, not in spite of the struggle, but because of it.

Ms. Angelica Kiboro, Principal, Strathmore Institute, congratulated the Class of 2025, urging them to believe in their full potential. The education they had received, she said, had laid a strong foundation, but the journey ahead would be defined by how they apply what they have learned.

She encouraged them to embrace innovation and remain open to new ideas, adding that they should let their minds stretch beyond limitations. She advised them not to be discouraged by setbacks, noting that mistakes are a natural part of growth as they teach resilience, sharpen focus, and often lead to better paths than initially imagined. Every challenge, she said, should be treated as a lesson that builds character and endurance.

Dr. Vincent Ogutu, Vice Chancellor and Chairperson of the Strathmore Institute College Board of Management, delivered a stirring charge to the graduates, one that blended gratitude, humility, and purpose. He invited them to pause and reflect on the many gifts that had shaped their journey: the parents and guardians who sacrificed to make their education possible; the lecturers who poured their wisdom and time into nurturing their growth; and the friends who stood by them through challenges and triumphs alike.

Dr. Ogutu further urged the graduands to remain grateful, not entitled, noting that those who walk with gratitude tend to rise to greater heights. And as they step into the world beyond Strathmore’s walls, he challenged them to be bold and use their knowledge and skills to change the world, confident that wherever they go, a Strathmore alum awaits to walk beside them.

Ms. Risper Ohaga, the Guest Speaker, a distinguished Strathmore alumna and the Chief Financial Officer of East African Breweries Limited, began by expressing what a great honor it was to serve as the Chief Guest at such a momentous occasion, celebrating the accomplishments of the Class of 2025.

She noted that the celebration was a recognition of the hard work, dedication, and resilience that had brought the graduates to that defining moment. Ms. Ohaga emphasized that they should not underestimate the significance of this milestone, reminding them that they are the future of business, the innovators, leaders, and changemakers who will shape the destiny of this country and the continent as a whole.

Building on this, Ms. Ohaga mentioned that she had been asked to speak about the skills needed to succeed in today’s industry. She emphasized that the most important of these are technical skills, the very foundation that the graduates had gained during their time at Strathmore.

“There is no substitute for knowledge,” affirmed Ms. Ohaga, her words carrying the weight of both wisdom and experience. “Knowing one’s craft is the ticket to the game.” She reminded the graduates that in an ever-changing world, competence is the true currency of success.

She went on to stress that technical competence alone is no longer enough in today’s rapidly evolving digital age. Whether it’s data analysis, coding, design, or other digital skills, she urged the graduates to stay conversant with technology and embrace the ability to adapt, unlearn, and relearn as the hallmark of lifelong learners. Yet, she reminded them, soft skills matter just as much.

“In the age of AI,” she noted, “it is human intelligence, including empathy, teamwork, emotional intelligence, collaboration, and relationship building, that will truly set you apart.” These, she said, are the qualities that will keep you grounded even as you soar, the traits that not only sustain success but give it meaning.

Ms. Ohaga concluded her address by emphasizing the importance of adaptability, problem-solving, and relationship-building as qualities that will distinguish the graduates in their professional journeys.

After her inspiring address, the ceremony transitioned to its most anticipated moment, the recognition and awarding of the graduates for their achievements. The graduation ceremony celebrated 742 graduates representing 22 nationalities, a diversity that spoke volumes about Strathmore’s global footprint and inclusive environment, which continues to attract learners from every corner of the world. Among the graduates, 50% were female and 49.96% male, a near-perfect parity reflecting Strathmore’s steadfast commitment to empowering both men and women to lead with integrity, innovation, and impact.

Ms. Risper Ohaga, Chief Guest, presents Mohamed Umair Chaudhry with his award in recognition of his outstanding academic excellence.

In addition to the awarding of diplomas and certificates, the ceremony also recognized students who had demonstrated outstanding academic excellence in their respective fields. Among the day’s shining stars was Mohamed Umair Chaudhry, an exceptional ACCA graduate who has proudly flown the Strathmore flag high through a record of remarkable achievement.

Umair’s consistent top-tier performance across multiple ACCA examination sittings is truly inspirational. He secured Position 1 in Kenya in six consecutive papers, an extraordinary feat that places him among the top performers globally. His accolades include: Financial Reporting (Sept 2023 – 1st in Kenya, 12th worldwide), Audit and Assurance (Mar 2024 – 1st in Kenya, 4th worldwide), Performance Management (Sept 2024 – 1st in Kenya, 19th worldwide), Strategic Business Leader (Dec 2024 – 1st in Kenya, 20th worldwide), Strategic Business Reporting (Mar 2025 – 1st in Kenya, 6th worldwide), and Advanced Financial Management (June 2025 – 1st in Kenya, 11th worldwide).

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Dr. James McFie.

Congratulations, Class of 2025!
