On Saturday, November 8, 2025, a group of 33 Strathmore University alumni successfully completed the Personal Finance Management Series, a financial literacy program delivered in partnership with Ecobank.

The series is part of the Strathmore University Alumni Association’s ongoing commitment to promoting lifelong learning among its members. As one of the most valued benefits of being part of the Strathmore community, such initiatives give alumni the platform to grow their knowledge in emerging and impactful fields including Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change, and Personal Finance.

The Personal Finance Management Series was launched following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Strathmore University and Ecobank aimed at strengthening financial literacy and economic empowerment. The program was delivered under the Alumni Office’s Knowledge Series, a continuous learning initiative designed to offer alumni practical, relevant, and timely content. Focused on equipping alumni with essential financial management skills, the program covered budgeting, investment planning, insurance, debt management, and personal savings. The sessions were tailored to address the real-world financial challenges faced by professionals today, empowering participants to make informed decisions for long-term stability.

“Strathmore has been looking for opportunities to increase experience for its students, staff, and self,” noted Mr. Eric Saulo, Director of Partnerships and Internationalization. “Through this partnership with Ecobank, we are helping our alumni take control of their financial futures while also strengthening our community through collaboration.”

In line with Strathmore’s spirit of community support, all proceeds from the program were directed to the Strathmore Alumni Fund, which supports alumni-led initiatives, scholarships, and community engagement programs. This model ensured that while participants gained valuable financial knowledge, they also contributed to the growth of future alumni initiatives. The series included six sessions—five conducted virtually to accommodate the busy schedules of working professionals, and one held in person at Strathmore University. The final session on November 8, 2025, concluded with a mini-graduation ceremony and the presentation of certificates of completion.

While the first cohort drew over 30 participants, the recently concluded second cohort registered 33 alumni from diverse professional backgrounds, underscoring growing interest in financial literacy.

During the final class, Mr. Stephen Kagiri, Ecobank’s Training Coordinator, emphasized the transformative power of financial knowledge. “Financial literacy goes beyond understanding money—it is about developing confidence, independence, and discipline,” he said. “We are proud to partner with Strathmore University in building a generation of financially informed leaders who can create lasting impact in their communities.” The sessions also served as a forum for open discussion and peer learning. Participants exchanged real-life financial experiences, practical tips, and explored investment strategies suited to different life stages. This interactive approach not only deepened understanding but also fostered connection and community among alumni.

Financial literacy remains a crucial yet often overlooked aspect of personal development. As financial systems become more complex, the ability to make sound financial decisions has never been more important. Programs like the Personal Finance Management Series play a key role in bridging this gap and equipping individuals with tools for financial independence. The successful completion of the series marks another milestone in Strathmore University’s commitment to holistic alumni development. Through strategic partnerships such as the one with Ecobank, the Alumni Office continues to expand opportunities for professional growth and continuous learning.

Looking ahead, the Alumni Office, in collaboration with Ecobank, plans to introduce additional cohorts and a second-level masterclass offering more hands-on, practical applications of the lessons covered. Alumni are encouraged to take part in these programs as part of Strathmore’s mission to nurture competent, ethical, and financially empowered leaders who make a positive impact in society.
