The global fight against plastic pollution has been ongoing for quite some time.  Plastic bottles, from production to disposal, have a devastating impact on the environment. It is for this reason that Strathmore University has embraced a new mission: To be a hub for environmentally aware students who aim to effect positive change. We are committed to channeling our collective power and energy towards finding a solution. The ‘Sip responsibly and bottle wisely’ campaign, spearheaded by the Bachelor of Arts in Communications third year students, is one such solution. The campaign aims to promote environmental change through the use of reusable water bottles.

Plastic bottles pose a threat not only to the environment but also to human health. Strathmore University’s decision to adopt eco-friendly practices by promoting the use of reusable water bottles is a significant milestone and a commendable choice. It sets the pace for other universities to follow suit and embrace sustainability. Water is life! However, we must ensure that we do not destroy the environment in the process. Alongside the introduction of reusable water bottles, it is vital to ensure  availability of clean water by increasing the number of water stations on campus to encourage students to invest in reusable water bottles. Are you ready to embark this transformational journey together?

Standing together as we campaign to save our environment and enhance sustainability will also reduce our expenses by a good percentage. Frequently purchasing bottled water can strain your  finances compared to having a reusable one. As we emphasise sustainability, we truly mean it. Promoting the use of reusable water bottles instead of disposable plastic ones will not only protect the environment from the toxic contamination but also help us preserve financial resources.  The efficiency and durability of reusable bottles further strengthen the case for this campaign, underscoring its commitment to sustainability.

Plastic bags are banned in Kenya, and we are hoping that this campaign will promote the use of reusable water bottles in the country. The campaign may be a small step, but a step that has the potential to greatly impact our society.

When students opt for reusable bottles, they are working together to make a big difference in reducing plastic waste. This collective effort alleviates the burden on places where we dispose of trash, such as landfills and oceans, ultimately benefiting the environment. This choice perfectly aligns with Strathmore University’s commitment to sustainability goals, showing that individual actions have the power to contribute to a more eco-friendly world.

We are therefore urging all of you as the Strathmore Community to join us as we embark on this journey of sustainability through the use of reusable water bottles. Your support will be paramount to the campaign and beneficial to the university as a whole. Join us as we “Sip responsibly and bottle wisely!”
